Bomb, bomb look-alike create panic

While a real hand grenade was found at Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai, an abandoned tiffin carrier found at Singjamei Super Market created a panicky situation today.
Meanwhile, a man in an inebriated condition who came carrying a hand grenade has been apprehended by police at Pallel.
Some unidentified persons planted a hand grenade at the residence of Mayengbam Bhabananda (49) of Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai.
The grenade was discovered at around 6.30 am.
Police have retrieved the grenade which was found at the edge of Bhabananda's eastern outhouse.
Bhabananda runs a brick farm called MBS at Koirengei whereas his younger Premananda is proprietor of a packaged drinking water factory.
Their late father Mayengbam Ibotombi was PWD's Chief Engineer.

Family members maintained there was no case of any monetary from any UG group.
Later, local womenfolk staged a protest demonstration at the residential gate of Bhabananda against planting explosives in civilian areas.
On the other hand, a man in an inebriated condition who came carrying a hand grenade was arrested by police from near Pallel bridge, Thoubal district at around 10.45 am.
The arrested person has been identified as Haobijam Sadananda (40) of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai but staying at Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak.
Sadananda claimed that the hand grenade was given to him by some unidentified persons at a liquor vendor a few days back.
The unidentified persons also gave him a phone number written on a piece of paper.
In the meantime, a tiffin carrier abandoned on the southern staircase of Singjamei Super Market created a tense and panicky situation with many people thinking that the tiffin carrier contained explosives.
Later, a bomb disposal squad of Manipuri Police arrived and examined the tiffin carrier closely during which traffic was blocked on either side of the highway.
But on opening the tiffin carrier meticulously, the bomb disposal squad found only rice and yongchak-alu eromba.
