Training programme begins

A two-day training programme on seed certification in rabi crops for seed inspectors and trainers in Manipur was inaugurated today at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat under the sponsorship of ICAR Manipur Centre.
G Shamu Kabui, Director, Dept of Agriculture; Dr N Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Manipur Centre and Kh Mohendro Singh, Seed Analyst were the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively of the inaugural function.
Speaking at the occasion, G Shamu Kabui said that the training programme has been conducted in order to give a clear idea on seed certification for seed inspectors and trainers of Manipur.
Highlighting the significance of seed in agriculture, Shamu said that certified seeds are essential for enhancement of agriculture produces.
Thirty officers from the Agriculture dept and KVKs took part in the training programme.
Dr N Prakash said that the shortage of 25 % of grain production in the State could be met with cultivation of quality seeds.
He added that a mega-seed project would be taken up in the State from this year.
