Imphal, January 28 2014:
Valedictory function of the six-month long 121st birth anniversary of Maha Kavi Hijam Anganghal was held today at Rup Mahal Theatre, BT road with Kumbi AC MLA S Bira Singh, State Kala Akademi Secretary S Vedeshwor Sharma and Little Master English Higher Secondary School, Shamurou secretary M Thoiba present at the occasion as the chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
Highlighting that only through collective act of conscientiousness by the people will bring about positive development in the society, S Bira in his address called upon the intellectual section of the society to contribute their mite in making Manipur a vibrant and progressive State.
Regretting that there had been certain period wherein poets or literary figures used to voluntarily remain isolated or ignored by the general public, the MLA said such a notion has been eventually proved to be misconception as their literary works and far-sightedness have become indispensable component for the younger generation in understanding social norms and move ahead in life.
The utility of literary figures are even more glaring in the present contest as their write-ups are being studied at the level of university from being reference books at the school level, he noted.
As part of the valedictory function, noted Manipuri novelist BM Meisnamba was honoured with presentation of simple gift while a souvenir entitled 'The Man of the National Epic Hijam Anganghal Singh' was also released by the dignitaries.
Floral tributes were also paid to the portrait of Hijam Anganghal on the occasion.
