Imphal, January 28 2014:
The JAC constituted in connection with the missing of Laishram Surmila has blamed Kumbi Police for slackness and apathy saying that police have shown little interest to trace the missing girl.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, JAC vice-president Leishangthem (O) Indubala said that police have done very little to trace Laishram Surmila even though it has been seven days since she went missing.
Surmila went out at around 3.30 pm January 22 to herd in cow but she did not came back.
Subsequently a missing report was filed at Kumbi police station on January 24 .
The missing report was simply recorded in the general diary but no FIR was registered, Indubala said.
Meanwhile, people of the neighbourhood have searched for Surmila extensively.
On being enquired with Kumbi Police about Surmila, they said that all police stations have been informed of the missing girl.
Kumbi Police went on to question the utility of taking out mass rally, staging protest demonstrations and holding press meets with regard to the missing case of Surmila.
10 year old Surmila, daughter of Laishram Amuthoi of Chandanpokpi Turel Khongbal is deaf and mute.
She went to a place known as Morok Ingkhol about 2 Kms from her home to herd in their cow.
Surmila is the fourth of the six siblings born to her parents.
She was studying in class I at Pombikhok Primary School.
It is possible that some people abducted Surmila for organ transplantation or some perverts might have raped and murdered the girl.
A 14 year old girl from Borayangbi went missing since December 14 last year.
Counting the case of Surmila, there are two missing cases during a period of just two months.
Given this situation, law enforcing agencies as well as civil society organisations need to look into this matter with due seriousness, Indubala added.
