No contender against Abdul Salam

Imphal, January 28 2014:
Whereas Congress party has nominated Haji Abdul Salam to fight for the lone Rajya Sabha seat of Manipur, no other party/individual has filed nomination papers till 4 pm today which is the last hour for submission of nomination papers.
Irrespective of whether there is any contender or not, Abdul Salam's chance of being elected as Rajya Sabha MP is a certainty as there are 42 Congress MLAs in the Manipur State Legislative Assembly which has a total of 60 seats.
Nonetheless, scrutiny would be held tomorrow.
Haji Abdul Salam hails from Heibong Makhong village within 36 Wabagai AC, Thoubal district.
At present, he is staying at Hatta Golapati.
He was not only AICC member but also once held the post of MPCC vice-president.
He was elected to Manipur Legislative Assembly thrice and was inducted into the Council of Ministers twice.
Haji Abdul Salam would be declared elected by the Election Commission after the election process is over, informed an official source.
