Tribal market sees light of day at Nungba

Imphal, January 28 2014:
A new tribal market constructed by the Tribal Affairs and Hills Department and the Manipur Development Society at Nungba was inaugurated today and it coincided with the opening function of the 4th conference of the All Zeliangrong Catholic Society at St John's Parish, Nungba.
Inaugurating the newly constructed market complex, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam stated the market complex was built at the cost of Rs 1.47 crore.
After inaugurating the market complex, the Deputy Chief Minister graced the opening function of the All Zeliangrong Catholic Society at St John's Parish as chief guest.

Parliamentary Secretary (TA&H) Victor Keishing, Assam Rifles, Tamenglong Hqs Commanding Officer Col V Vidya Shankar and Tamenglong DC AS Arthur were also seated on the dais as guests of honour.
Speaking at the function, Gaikhangam called upon all women of the State to be aware of their responsibilities, duties as well as their rights.
He also underscored the immense responsibility of women in any society.
He stated that 'woman is the best economist' .
Claiming that the State Government has been striving to negate the epithet of most backward district given to Tamenglong district, Gaikhangam called upon all people of Tamenglong to be laborious, sincere and also to imbibe scientific aptitude.
He further informed that the Government has been working on an alternative solution to the issue of jhum cultivation in order to check deforestation in the State.
The function culminated with presentation of colourful traditional dance and music items.
