Imphal, January 28 2014:
A fine all round show with the bat and ball from Brojen ensured a comfortable 4 wicket victory for DSU over Blue Hawk in the ongoing 11th Manipur Veteran Cricket Championship today.
On winning the toss, Blue Hawk opted to bat but were bundled out for 146 with Brojen emerging the chief wrecker with 3 wickets and ably aided by Sachikumar with 2 wickets, Ritikkumar with 2 wickets and 1 wicket apiece from Mani and Jotin.
Though Bobby of Blue Hawk chipped in with a well composed 31 runs off 36 balls, the bowlers of DSU led by Brojen kept a tight line and length and managed to extract bounce and swing from the wicket to restrict Blue Hawk at 146 runs.
The other notable inputs for the Blue Hawk players were Ida with 18 runs off 26 overs, Anand 16 off 23 balls and Rishikanta with a breezy 12 runs off only 10 balls.
The target of 147 was however too meagre as the batsmen of DSU capitalised on the loose bowling from Blue Hawk and managed to reach it losing six wickets along the away.
Brojen was at it again with the bat for DSU scoring a crisp 34 off 38 balls.
He was ably aided by Ritikkumar who followed suit with a well composed 23 runs off 46 balls, Sachikumar who managed to score 19 off 32 balls and Nobo who scored 18 not out off 25 balls.
For the Blue Hawk bowlers, Bobby led the charge with 3 wickets, but other than Rishikanta and Babudhir, none of the others were among the wickets.
The DSU batsmen consistently managed to find the gap on either side of the wicket to milk the bowling and keep the score board ticking at a favourable pace.
Good running between the wickets and banishing the loose deliveries to the boundary marked the innings of the DSU batsmen.
For his fine all round show of 34 runs off 38 balls and 3 wickets, Brojen of DSU walked away with the man of the match award.
Tomorrow, IWVCA will take on REYS.
