Thoubal, January 14 2023:
Students of Khangabok Higher Secondary School and villagers of Khangabok came out in large numbers and blocked National Highway 102 (Imphal-Moreh) in front of Khangabok Higher Secondary school on Saturday.
The traffic on the Highway was blocked to protest the construction of a road divider on Friday night without any break or "turning point" as demanded by the locals.
Traffic along the Highway resumed at around 2 pm today after a large number of Thoubal District Police personnel arrived at the scene and dispersed the crowd.
Speaking to media persons, Thokchom Kiran Meitei, president Khangabok Development & Students Union (KDASU) informed that people of Khangabok have made repeated appeals to Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, SP Thoubal and GR Infra Project Limited to create a break or "turning point" in the ongoing construction of road dividers along the highway near Khangabok Higher Secondary School to facilitate movement of students and villagers of Khangabok.
"Workers of GR Infra Project Limited came on Friday night and constructed the road divider without the knowledge of the public", said Th Kiran while claiming that the company/agency had earlier assured to fulfill the demands of the people and create a turning point in the area.
He further appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter and address the grievances of the public at the earliest.
