15 acres of poppy plantation destroyed

The Government's War on Drug continues to get support from the public as Kangpokpi police, NAB, Forest officials and people belonging to Liangmei and Nepali community destroyed poppies planted in around 15 acres at Chawangkining village (Koubru hill range) in Kangpokpi district, today.
The destruction drive led by Kangpokpi SP Th Vikramjit and conducted in the presence of media persons was participated by volunteers of Liangmei Naga Council, Eastern Zone (LNC-EZ), Ahangruak Chiefs Chairmen Association (ACCA) and locals of Pourel Basti.
The team also burnt five huts used for storing plantation material and seized some insecticides and pumps.
Speaking to media persons, the Kangpokpi SP said that the district police have been carrying out many drives to eliminate poppy plantations from the district.
Lauding all the people including civilians who took part in the drive, Th Vikramjit sought more support from the masses to end drug menace.
ACCA president Ch Wisobou who is also the chairman of Chawangkining village said that poppy plantation in their village was done by people of Sehjang and Khollen in cahoots with a UG group which is a signatory of SoO.
Saying that Liangmei Naga in Kangpokpi signed an agreement with Kangpokpi police in 2021 to always stand against illicit drugs, the village chairman said that they will continue to support the Govt's move to curb poppy plantations.
