The Directorate of University and Higher Education, Government of Manipur has clarified with regards to 'inconsistencies in the news report on implementation of Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in the colleges of Manipur in some sections of media on January 13, 2023' .
Additional Director of University and Higher Education, Government of Manipur, P Shantikumar Singh in a press release said that ITEP is a 4 years integrated degree programme on teacher education and the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has notified on May 1, 2022 for submission of online application for opening of ITEP in the higher education institutions of India for the academic session 2023-24 .
The last date of submission was on May 31, 2022.Nine Government Colleges of Manipur applied for opening of ITEP online to National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
At present, clarifications from the institutions which have applied for opening of ITEP are being sought by NCTE and the process for clarification/verification is going on.
At the end of the first round of clarification/verification, proposals of eight out of the nine colleges have not been accepted.
However, clarification made by Lilong Haoreibi College, Thoubal is accepted and is being processed at present.
Some other colleges are making a second appeal for consideration of the proposal submitted to NCTE.
It is expected that some colleges from Manipur will get approval for opening of ITEP from NCTE for the academic session 2023-24, added the release.
