Imphal, January 14 2023:
Without taking any name in particular, Education Minister Th Basantakumar has categorically stated that the primary duty of the students is to attend classes on time and acquire knowledge, not stage protests at the behest of some instigators.
Departments of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology, RIMS and Share and Care (SAC), Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal jointly organised an interaction programme on "Panthung Younaba Pambei" at the jubilee hall of the medical institute, today.
The programme was specially organised for students preparing to give Class X and XII examinations.
Speaking at the interaction programme, the Education Minister appealed to all students not to actively participate in protests but focus on their studies to become successful and contribute to Nation building.
"If they have any problem then they may highlight their grievances through the Headmasters or at the proper forum," Basantakumar advised.
Saying that students should use their time in a productive way but not come out to streets at the behest of instigators, the Education Minister continued that students protesting against the alleged shortcomings at Dhanamanjuri University was because of misunderstandings.
RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences) and DMU (Dhanamanjuri University) are autonomous institutions which have their own administrative set up, Basantakumar said and maintained that the administration of such autonomous institutions could not be interfered with.
He appealed to all concerned to refrain from misguiding the students.
Blindly asking the Ministers or any Government officials to resign is wrong, the Minister asserted and added that the responsibility of the Government is to sanction funds and provide infrastructure.
On the other hand, Basantakumar said that organising an interaction programme with the students is very important for the students to become successful and help them cope with stress during the time of examinations.
Expressing desire to conduct a similar programme in all the districts, Basantakumar assured that he will extend all possible assistance in the endeavour.
He also asked the students to take maximum benefit from the interaction programme and learn soft skills, public speaking and engage in team work.
RIMS Director Dr L Ranjit and Head of Department (HoD) of Clinical Psychology Dr Ng Sameeta and Professor Dr RK Lenin, Department of Psychiatry, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) also attended the programme.
