A 'rural haat' will be constructed at Kachai village, says Yumnam Khemchand

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD&PR) Minister Yumnam Khemchand has announced that a 'Rural Haat' will be constructed in Kachai village, Ukhrul district.
The Minister made the above announcement while speaking at the inaugural function of 19th State level Kachai Lemon Festival held at Kachai Village local ground yesterday organised by the Kachai Fruit Farming and Processing Co-operative Society Limited.
The 2-day festival which concluded today was held under the theme 'Promotion of Natural F arming'.
During the inaugural function, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) Mission Director Mohammed Zakir Hussain Khan handed over a cheque of Rs 2 lakhs to the organisers of the festival.
Opening of various stalls of lemon and cultural and traditional music and dance performances were the highlights of the inaugural day.
The festival witnessed active participation of farmers and villagers of nearby areas.
Y Khemchand elaborated that under RD&PR, the construction of a rural haat which will be more like a market shed covering an area of 750 square foot with cold storage and toilet facilities will begin before March this year in Kachai village.
Speaking about the renowned Kachai lemon which has got the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, he called for dedicated efforts from the farmers to produce Kachai lemon in large quantities.
Expressing that job card holders can contribute to Kachai lemon farming, he emphasized on the need of increasing the number of job card holders in Kachai village.
Wangkhei AC MLA Thangjam Arunkumar while speaking at the occasion, highlighted the importance of promoting Kachai lemons and stressed on the need of replacing the imported products with the indigenous and locally grown products.
Farmers who produced large quantities of products were honoured with prizes.
