Kangpokpi, December 30 2022:
The Saitu Gamphazol Area Village Organization and Saparmeina Area Village Organization have collectively decided to ban all forms of celebration including picnics along Imphal River from Koubru Laikha to Pangmol village to save the river from plastics and other waste materials.
A joint statement of the two area village organizations stated that picnics and celebrations are commonly and widely seen, especially during year-end and new year without maintaining any hygiene and cleanliness on the part of the picnickers thereby littering the river.
It also stated that SGAVO, SAVO, and United Saparmeina Youth Club had spearheaded the campaign "Clean Imphal River" and had already cleaned the river on October 4 this year under the campaign.
However, with the festive season of the year-end and the new year ahead, people were seen visiting the river for celebrations and picnics which would definitely pollute the river with litter and other waste materials since no hygiene and clean behavior have ever been maintained, it stated.
"Therefore, we collectively decided to ban all types of picnics and celebrations along the Imphal river from Koubru Laikha to Pangmol village with the aim to keep the river clean, safe and free from public nuisance as well as untoward disturbances in the name of year-end and new year celebrations," it further stated.
