Imphal, December 30 2022:
Apart from recruiting 1000 teachers, a new transfer and posting system which would be based on gender and residential address of teachers would be introduced soon.
This was announced by Education Minister Th Basantakumar while speaking at the 40th Tashar Katamnao Long Education cum Raising Day held at Kathing Memorial Ground, Tashar village, Ukhrul district today.
Speaking at the event which was held on the theme 'Our Dream: Prosperity in Education', Basantakumar said that Government schools are now facing acute shortage of teachers as no teachers were recruited for a very long time even though around 700 teachers retire every year.

Although all the vacant posts of teachers cannot be fulfilled at one time on account of the State's financial condition, at least 1000 teachers would be recruited soon, he said.
Saying that 70 per cent of the Government school teachers are women, the Education Minister pointed out that the female teachers as well as senior male teachers face many problems when they are posted in far off places.
When these teachers are posted in far off places, they exert pressure on the authorities to get them posted in nearby places.
In order to address all these problems, a new transfer and posting system based on gender, age and residential address would be introduced soon, the Education Minister said.
Noting that some educated villagers have been teaching at Government schools located in hill districts which lack the required strength of teachers, Basantakumar said that recruitment of these villagers as teachers would ensure community involvement in the teaching process in addition to enhancing loyalty.
However, they must fulfil all the criteria and qualifications laid down for recruitment of teachers, Basantakumar said.
He then appealed to all the 'voluntary teachers' to clear/complete TET, DIET and BEd etc so that they are eligible for teacher recruitment exams.
Elaborating the steps taken up by Education Department for improvement of Government schools, Basantakumar said that special coaching classes would be organised for Government school students who would appear for the HSLC exam from the early part of 2023 .
He said that the special coaching class would be organised at Tushen High School for the benefit of students belonging to Tashar and surrounding villages.
He said that he would work to upgrade Tushen High School to the level of a higher secondary school.
Assuring that four teachers would be sent to Tushen High School shortly so as to make up shortage of teachers apart from providing necessary benches and desks, Basantakumar said that he would look into the local people's aspiration of constructing separate hostels for boys and girls and quarters for teachers.
Claiming that 'no work, no pay' is one of the principles of the BJP Government, he appealed to all the people to inform the Government if there is any derelict teacher.
The event was also participated by Education (S) Hills Additional Director Alfred J Khaute, officers of Education Department and ATSUM leaders.
Later prizes were distributed to winners of a competitive examination conducted by TKL in two categories for students reading in Classes V to X .
