Kangpokpi, December 30 2022:
Saitu Gamphazol Area Village Organisations (SGAVO) and Saparmeina Area Village Organisations (SAVO) have banned all forms of celebration including picnics along Imphal River from Koubru Laikha to Pangmol village to save the river from plastics and other waste materials pollution.
A joint statement of the organisations stated that picnics and celebrations are generally seen, especially during year-end and new year, without maintaining hygiene and clean habits by picnickers littering the river.
The organisations therefore, "collectively decided to ban all types of picnics and Celebrations from Koubru Laikha to Pangmol village to maintain the river clean, safe and free from public nuisance as well as untoward disturbances in the name of year-end and new year celebrations," said the release.
It also mentioned that SGAVO and SAVO along with United Saparmeina Youth Club had in the past spearheaded the campaign "Clean Imphal River" and cleaned the river on October 4 this year under the campaign.
