Imphal, December 30 2022:
Ebudhou Pakhangba Handloom and Handicrafts Cooperative Society Ltd, Leimakhong Mapal Lamlai has categorically stated that Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans' Cooperative Society Ltd (AWAS) should not conduct election and GB meeting without prior renewal of the primary societies affiliated to AWAS.
In a release, the Society said that it will inform Co-operative registrar to halt election and GB meeting before renewal of the primary societies.
Moreover, the bid of AWAS to conduct the election secretly by renewing only some societies close to them will not be accepted.
The matter has come to light after a board member of AWAS revealed the stealthy process, the release claimed while urging the Co-operative registrar to look into the matter seriously.
While condemning All Manipur Weavers Cooperative Society Association for misleading the primary societies through the media, it expressed apprehension that a certain individual is misusing the primary societies in the state as a mere tool.
The nearing of AWAS election and GB meeting came to light when a board member stated through media.
It is unfortunate that president of the society tried to show the board member in a bad light and mislead the public.
The release pointed out that AWAS is an implementing agency to ensure funds and schemes launched by the central government reach the genuine weavers.
However, primary societies will never allow AWAS to be converted into an agency that acts in the interest of few individuals only, it asserted.
