Imphal, December 14 2021:
There is a strong likelihood of shifting the Indian Oil's (Assam Oil Division) divisional office from Imphal to Assam's Tezpur.
According to reliable sources, there are already three divisional offices of Indian Oil (AOD) in Assam and preparation is under-way to establish another similar office at Tezpur.
If the divisional office at Imphal is indeed shifted to Tezpur, then it would be a big loss for the State.
Notably, the Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli is a resident of Duliajan, Assam and this has made the speculation of relocating the divisional office from Imphal to Tezpur more worrisome.
According to the sources, the Deputy Manager of Indian Oil (AOD) Retail Sales Office, Imphal also holds the post of State Level Coordinator and he has the responsibility to discuss any problems that have the tendency to disrupt supply of petroleum products with the Government.
The State Level Coordinator's responsibility grows even bigger at the time of any greater hindrances such as prolonged economic blockades in ensuring uninterrupted supply of petroleum products to the State.
His roles in laying petroleum and gas pipelines in Manipur as a part of the Act East Policy would also be significant, according to the source.
In the past, only a few petrol pumps (retail outlets) existed in the State, but the number has now increased to 124 (approx) and the responsibility of fixing any equipment or parts of the petrol pumps lies with the Indian Oil (AOD).
Even with the presence of the divisional office, repairing or fixing a petrol pump still takes time.
The situation will worsen considerably if the Indian Oil's (AOD) Imphal office is shifted to another place, said the sources.
