Two remanded to police custody for 'selling' infant

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West on Monday remanded two persons including a nurse to four days police custody for allegedly selling an infant on November 30 without the consent of the mother.
Accused Sarangthem (o) Sandhyarani (45), w/o S Deben of Tuliyaima Maning Leikai Hawairou and Thoudam Mona (35), w/o Sanjoy of Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai were arrested on December 12 .
The IO of the case submitted that another accused Yendrembam Deepak (24) s/o Depu of Malom Tuliyaima Hawairou was arrested on 10 December based on the enquiry report of Center Coordinator Childline Imphal West.
He has been remanded to police custody till December 16 .
Notably, Deepak is the husband of the complainant.
During the enquiry, mother of the infant stated that she along with her husband went to a rented room of Thoudam Mona, who is a nurse by profession, at BT Road as she was expecting her third child.
On the midnight of the same day, she delivered a baby boy normally and on the next day Mona took her child and handed the baby to her husband, the IO said.
Shortly, the mother came to know that her husband gave the baby to an unknown person for adoption, the IO said and claimed that the husband confined his wife until she was taken by her parents.
On interrogation, accused Yendrembam Deepak disclosed that Sarangthem (o) Sandhyrani and Thoudam Mona were involved in illegal sale of the new born baby and hence they were arrested on December 12.The IO also submitted that some co-accused of the crime are yet to be arrested and prayed for four days police custody of the accused.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing of he IO remanded both of them to police custody till December 16 .
