Imphal, December 14 2021:
As announced earlier, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) staged a sit-in protest at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community Hall today, but the same was disrupted momentarily by the State police.
During the demonstration, the protesters urged the Government to work out proper guidelines that clear-ly define who the permanent residents of the State are, incorporate provisions of the Bengal Easter Frontier Regulation in the Manipur Inner Line Permit Guidelines that restrict outsiders from purchasing land in the State, establish Manipur State Population Commission and implement Section 20 of the ILP guidelines.
A team of Imphal West police restricted the demonstration for a brief period.
Following this, a team of JCILPS led by its convenor BK Moirangcha met the Imphal West Deputy Commissioner.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, BK Moirangcha informed that the Deputy Commissioner will issue an order in a day or two to complete necessary paperworks for non-locals to stay in Manipur within 20 to 30 days.
The DC also assured of initiating legal actions against those who defy the direction, the JCILPS convenor added.
The JCILPS volunteers then returned to the protest site and continued its agitation.
There, BK Moirangcha continued that the protest demonstration was staged as the gazette notification of the Government doesn't include key points to protect the indigenous people of Manipur.
Saying that the JCILPS will continue its protests and also hold an awareness programme, he urged the State Government to reinforce the Inner Line Permit System implemented in Manipur by amending its regulations.
