Imphal, December 14 2021:
Working president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) MLA K Meghachandra has categorically stated that a certain political party regularly finding fault in statements or comments to take up cases is unfortunate.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan at BT Road, MLA K Meghachandra said that a FIR was registered against him on the charge of verbally assaulting a security personnel at Andro Nongpok Keithelmanbi in connection with the 2019 Parliamentary election.
After successive hearings at lower Courts, the case was transferred to the Supreme Court, the MLA said and added that the apex Court had passed an order to examine the proceeding of the case yesterday.
Welcoming the move of the Supreme Court, K Meghachandra clarified that he raised complaints to the security personnel as a legislator in the interest of the voters who were allegedly deprived of exercising their rights.
Stating that he has been facing great difficulties due to the case, the MLA asked what the condition would be if the case had been registered against a common man.
Stating that taking laws at hand is never a good sign, the MLA urged the complainant to give concerted effort in the prosecution of drug-related cases instead of exploring means to take up new cases for speaking against them.
