Thoubal, December 14 2021:
Decrying the transfer of a teacher amid the school facing shortage of teachers, students of Azad Higher Secondary School located at Yairipok Tulihal staged sit-in protest in front of the school gate on Tuesday.
The sit-in protest was mainly organised by All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO), Yairipok branch.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, AMMSO Yairipok branch president Mk Samin Khan recounted that an order issued by Education (s) joint secretary on December 7 transferred Azad Higher Secondary School, Yairipok physics department teacher M Jeeten Singh.
The transfer of a teacher from the school at a time when the students have been urging the authorities concerned for ensuring posting of requisite number of teachers in the state is unfortunate, he said.
Confiding that the number of students in the school is 700 and there are only 28 teachers, Samin Khan said that there were only two teachers for physics in the school.
Will the government not consider the plight of the girl students of the school, if one of the two physics teachers got transferred, he asked, while questioning the claims of chief minister N Biren that government schools has been seeing tremendous improvement with the launch of School Fagathansi and School Chatsi missions.
It is but natural that glorification of the Mission by the government authorities would be construed as nothing less than publicity stunt is teachers continue to be transferred at the whim and fancy of the department that too when the normal class has started to resume after two years of cessation due to Covid-19 pandemic, he maintained.
Samin also pointed out that the Yairipok school is facing shortage of Physics, Manipuri and Home Science teachers in addition to absence of sweeper, chowkidar, school gate, desks, benches, laboratories and science practical instrument.
While demanding revocation of the transfer order within 24 hours and sending back the physics teacher, Samin also urged the government to post teachers of other subjects and focus towards development of requisite infrastructure of the school.
AMMSO will also submit a memorandum to the education minister in this regard he added.
