Sit-in protests bomb threat to intending candidate

Condemning the bomb threat and placing of live bullets at the residence of intending candidate in Hiyanglam A/C Nongmaithem Sanjay of Sekmaijin Khunou, local womenfolk staged a sit-in demonstration at Sekmaijin Bazar on Tuesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, one Thounaojam Chanu Ayangleima denounced the threat to Sanjay and appealed to all concerned not to repeat such acts which could kill and injure innocent people.
Questioning whether the bomb threat was to discourage Sanjay contest the election or for some other personal matter, she said that it has caused confusion.
Stating that they do not want any kind of unwanted incidents in connection with the upcoming election in Hiyanglam A/C, Ayangleima appealed for peaceful, free and fair election.
The protest was staged a day after unidentified miscreants) placed a hand grenade and four live bullets at the residential gate of Sanjay on Monday.
The bomb and live bullets were spotted around 3 pm as Sanjay and his supporters were attending an election meeting at Thongjao.
A minor had reportedly started playing with the bomb before another child realised that it was an explosive device and threw it into the river.
Hearing the news about the bomb, a police team led by Hiyanglam police station led by OC Y Shanta rushed to the spot.
Later, Manipur police bomb disposal squad safely defused tne bomb.
