Churachandpur, October 12 2021:
A day after announcing closure of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Tuinom in at Churachandpur district headquarters and cessation of the admission process over alleged flouting of norms, volunteers of the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur shut down the Vidyalaya with effect from Tuesday noon.
The institute was put under lock and seal in protest against the authorities entertaining admission of students from other districts and terming such practices as violation of the eligibility criteria as specified for the JNVs.
According to KSO, Churachandpur secretary Minlal Gangte as per the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) Eligibility Criteria Rule No 4.1, only candidates hailing from the district concerned where the JNV is located are eligible to apply for admission.
However, as JNV Tuinom was found to have been enrolling students from outside the district for the past many years violating all norms and guidelines laid down for admission, the main gate of Vidyalaya has been locked and key shall be returned only after an agreement is reached on the issue, he said.
