Abonmai's funeral service on Oct 14

Imphal, October 12 2021:
The funeral service of Athuan Abonmai, who was abducted and murdered in Tamenglong district last month, will take place on October 14, said Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai in a release.
Decision to hold the funeral has the consent of the family members, it informed, adding that the 'Funeral Service Cum Condolence' programme on October 14 will be held at Tarung Village Community Hall, Thangmeiband.
The release recounted that Athuan Abonmai was abducted and subsequently murdered on September 11.Abonmai went to Tamenglong town attend the official programme 'Go to Hills' which the Chief Minister attended along with his Cabinet Colleagues and top government officials, but he could be saved from the abductors.
His body was brought to Imphal on September 23 and kept at the RIMS morgue after completion of Post Mortem and other necessary official procedures and formalities on the condition that the JAC demands put up before the state government are fulfilled so as to bring logical conclusion.
The release conveyed that the JAC and the state government held five rounds of negotiations before reaching an agreement.
The government side was led by chief minister N Biren with the participation of chief secretary, additional chief secretary, special secretary (home), DIG and DC Imphal West District while the JAC was represented by its convenor, advisor and leaders of various Zeliangrong civil organisations.
Meanwhile, family members and relatives of Abonmai and the JAC invited leaders of all the leading civil societies organisations of the state, people known to him, those who shared the pain and grief of the bereaved family members and who stood in unison with the JAC during the time of searching for justice for the departed soul to attend the funeral service.
The 'Funeral Service cum Condolence' programme will commence from 11:30 am.
Prior to the funeral event, a foundation stone for Athuan Abonmai Memorial Park will be laid by chief minister N Biren at the memorial park site, the release further informed.
