Imphal, October 12 2021:
A Legal Aid Clinic for Gender and Sexual Minority Communities was inaugurated by Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) executive chairman and Manipur High Court Judge Justice Kh Nobin at All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association (AMANA).
Solidarity and Action against the HIV Infection in India (SAATHI) and Empowering Trans Ability (ETA) office at New Checkon on Tuesday along with conduct of one-day legal awareness programme.
Speaking at the programme organised by MASLSA, Justice Kh Nobin informed that as the citizens follow the Constitution of India but not everyone gets equality and justice as enshrined in the Constitution, the Legal Service Authority Act was enacted.
Stating that Legal Aid Clinic has been opened under the same Act, he appealed to the public to avail free service being provided under the clinic to get their rights.
The programme was also attended DLSA Imphal East chairperson RK Menicha; secretary N Lanleima and SAATHI assistant director Randhoni Lairikyengbam.
Meanwhile, a one-day legal awareness camp was held at Legal Aid Clinic, Chan gangei with primary focus on problems faced by people suffering from mental illness due to Covid-19 pandemic as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on Tuesday.
The programme organised by Legal Aid Clinic, Changangei under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, Manipur Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authority was attended by RIMS Psychiatric Department associate professor Dr Y Gojendro as chief guest and Legal Aid Clinic co-ordinator Prof L Sujata as president while Legal Aid Clinic, Changangei panel lawyer Akham Juliet and Centre for Mental Hygiene secretary Ch Pishakmacha were present as guests of honour.
During the technical session, Thounaojam Bon Bihari spoke as resource person.
As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Imphal East and Nirvana Foundation Legal Aid Clinic under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) also organised a one-day online legal awareness programme on the topic of "Drug Use and sex worker and majors for rehabilitation" on Tuesday.
The programme was attended District and Sessions Jude cum DLSA Imphal East chairman Rk Memcha, CJM cum DLSA secretary N Lanleima and Civil Judge Senior Division K Nirojit.
