Imphal, October 12 2021:
In connection with the observance of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, State Blood Cell, National Health" Mission Manipur in collaboration with RIMS and JNIMS organised a voluntary blood donation camp at IMA Lamphelpat on Tuesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Transfusion Medicine RIMS HOD Prof Dr Barindra Sharma reminded all concerned that blood is vital in saving people's lives which is the holiest service to God.
Stating that only the patient and his/her family know the value of blood, he also stressed the need for mass awareness to bust the misconceptions surrounding donating blood like increasing weight, headache and deformities after donating blood.
As the life span of blood cells is only three months, it will naturally be wasted if not donated to others, he explained, while adding that donating the blood which will be of no use after some time will be of great help to those in need if donated periodically.
Moreover, regular donation of blood after every three months helps in controlling heart attack, BP and cholesterol level and prevents development of many other illnesses, he pointed out, while appealing to regular blood donors for support in spreading mass awareness in this regard.
The blood donation camp was attended by SPO State Blood Cell, NHM Manipur Dr H Khamkhanpau Simte and JNIMS Blood Bank in-charge Dr K Surjit Singh among others.
In all, 49 persons donated their blood during the camp and certificates were distributed to them.
