Imphal, October 12 2021:
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has urged all the intending candidates of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election to maintain peace and not resort to violence during their election campaign.
MP Leishemba Sanajaoba made the remark while laying the foundation stone of the office of Meitei Pangal Ee-gee Khongulliba Foundation Committee (MPEKLFC) on the occasion of the 137th anniversary of Meitei Pangal settlement at Hiyangthang Tarahei Konjil.
The MP also expressed the need for all the CSOs of the State to look into the matter relating to pre-poll violence recently.
With the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election round the corner, reports of workers and supporters of rival candidates engaging in violent confrontations including firefights resulting in a number of injuries have emerged, which is unfortunate, he added.
MP Leishemba Sanajaoba maintained that free and fair election is indispensable in a democracy, where voters exercise their electoral rights to elect the candidates of their choice without any obstruction or coercion.
He appealed to the public to work together to ensure a free and fair election.
Meitel Pangal should acknowledge their surname as it identifies them as an indigenous group of the State and will also help in keeping their unique history, he maintained.
The programme was also attended by former MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC Soibam Subhaschandra and Buyamayum Yaima Shah, president of MPEKLFC.
