Imphal, September 13 2021:
Expressing concern over high rate of admission fees being charged from students seeking admission for the first semester courses in different colleges affiliated to Manipur University, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has asked the college authorities to maintain the status quo.
In a statement, AMSU pointed out that people of the state have been facing the impact of Covid -19 pandemic and academic activities have come to a standstill except for online classes.
As such, it is unforturiate of the college authorities to ignore the hardships faced by the student community and their families and charge high admission fees.
The admission fees include fees for different activities and services such as cultural fees and games & sports fees, which the institutions have not provided due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Instead of refunding those fees, the institutions are hiking the admission fee this year, the statement said.
The colleges should take the protest by students seriously and withdraw their stand, the union said, while adding that it will not remain silent if the university and college authorities do not take up necessary steps to decrease the admission fees.
