Freedom fighter Laikhuram Khagendrajit remembered

The 137th birth anniversary observance of freedom fighter Laikhuram Khagendrajit was held at the office premises of Kha gendrajit Research Committee (KRC) at Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi, Imphal East on Monday.
Former director of DIPR Meghachandra Kongbam and KRC president Dr M Kunjabihari attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while Artistes Training cum Educational Research Centre vice-presidents Sobita Mongjam, Athokpam Tomba and Sarangthem Raju were guests of honour.
A song compendium penned by 20 lyricists titled Khagendrajit Ningshing Ishei and edited by Okendro Khundongbam was also released as part of the observance.
The gathering paid befitting floral tributes to the portraits of Khagendrajit and his companions Pungshubam Ningthemjao, Chongtham Miramacha and Kshetrimayum Tomba.
Speaking on the occasion, Meghachandra Kongbam recalled how Khagen drajit established Meetei Mayek High School with a vision to promote Meetei Mayek through imbibing sense of revivalism.
While stating that it could be conveniently comprehended the obstacles Khagendrajit might have faced in carrying out his activities about five decades ago, the chief guest stressed that educated youths of cbntemporary society should endeavour to conduct further researches on his works and remember great leaders who worked to preserve and revive traditional values.
