'Shree Shree Govindajigi Bhangee Pareng Manga Amasung Chali Pareng', a dance book penned by Ngangbam Biramangol and transliterated from Bengali script to Meetei Mayek by Government Dance College teacher Yumlembam Ibemhal was released in a function held at the hall of the college at Palace Compound here on Monday.
Releasing the book, Art and Culture joint director and Government Dance College principal (in-charge) Keithellakpam Dinamani noted that as the younger generation can no longer read Bengali script it is important to re-publish all books in Bengali to Meetei Mayek script.
The book released on Monday will of huge benefit to the students, he added.
Stating that the state is extremely blessed with regard to art and culture, the joint director stressed the importance of documentation for preservation of our heritage, considering the difficulty in procuring research materials/reference books due to heavy reliance on oral tradition.
Thus, concerted efforts are needed to preserve the various art forms of the state and translating the same in the form of books, he said and urged the teachers concerned to extend all possible assistance.
