Rare Pangolin handed over to zoo

Kakching, January 02 2022:
After one Mayan-glambam Binodkumar of Kakching Makha Leikai Khong Pareng handed over a rare Pangolin (Saphu) to Kakching range forest officer Mayanglambam Binodkumar, the same was handed over to Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba on Sunday.
Speaking in this regard, Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Naorem Munal Meitei informed that Pangolin is included in the critically endangered red list by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) .
Moreover, Convention on International Trade in Endan gered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) also listed the animal in Appendix-I as one of the costliest animals and Trade Records Analysis of Flora and Fauna in Commerce (TRAFFIC) reported it as one of the most smuggled animals in the world.
He said that wild animals and birds might start flocking to residential areas because of winter season.
People should not kill them, and instead should hand them over to the nearest forest office.
