Kuki Chiefs Association, Khengjoi Sub-Division (KCA) and Kuki Students Organization (KSO) Khengjoi Block drew the attention of the State Government regarding the sorry state of power connectivity in remote villages of Khengjoi Sub-division.
Speaking to media persons, KCA Khengjoi Sub-division general secretary and 'Ningthou' of Moltuh village, Kheilet Touthang stated that members of KCA and KSO visited a number of remote villages located along the Indo-Myanmar border under Khengjoi Sub-division of Chandel district to ascertain the condition of electrical connectivity in the area.
He stated that about 50 villages located along the border from TS Laijang to New Samtal are still without electricity despite the records claiming otherwise.

He continued that earlier in 2017, Power Minister Th Biswajit had inaugurated a 2X1 MVA 33/11 Power Sub Station in Joupi village under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) Scheme to provide electricity to remote villages of the area.
"Electrical lines, prepaid meters, transformers, etc were also installed to provide electricity to about 100 villages located along the border under Khengjoi Sub-Division.
However, electricity was provided only to the villages near the Power Sub-station and about 50 villages have been left without electricity so far", he asserted.
He also informed that the Power sub-station in Joupi village was allegedly operated by four individuals who were hired on monthly wages while adding that they have also been carrying out maintenance work of the power-lines and have suffered various hardships and injuries in their work.
The general secretary appealed to the Government to appoint the four individuals as regular staff of the Department or send the required number of staff to operate the sub-station and maintain the power-lines.
Kheilet Touthang further urged the Government to look into the matter at the earliest for the welfare of the people living in remote villages under Khengjoi Sub-division.
