Imphal, January 02 2022:
Manipur People's Democratic Front (MPDF) has stressed the need for having equal number of MPs from every state and union territory in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in order to bring equitable development across the country.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday, MPDF secretary Sapam Samungou said that bringing equitable development has remained elusive in the country even though the NDA government brought NITI Aayog in place of Planning Commission with high hope.
Approximately 77 per cent of the people living below poverty line are still in the same or worse condition and it needs a different approach to bring inclusive development in the country,'he said.
UP has 80 Lok Sabha seats and 31 Rajya Sabha seats whereas Manipur has only two seats in the lower house and one in the upper house of parliament.
In the United States, every state irrespective of their population or area size, has two senate members each and they get equal rights and share.
Deciding number of MPs based on population will never bring true development in the country, he contended.
