NPP election office attacked, workers assaulted

Residents of Brahmapur Laljilakpa under Yaiskul assembly constituency condemned the firing at the residence of one Saikhom Manglem, where an election office of intending candidate H Vikramjit is being opened, and staged a sit-in-protest on Sunday.
According to locals, unidentified miscreants fired towards the residence of Manglem at about 9pm on Saturday and a team of Porompat police investigated the matter and registered an FIR to begin investigation.
During the protest, residents demanded booking of culprits involved in the firing and awarding them befitting punishment.
NPP intending candidate H Vikramjit also strongly condemned the firing amidst the call for making the upcoming election free and fair and appealed to those involved not to repeat such acts in future.
He then demanded immediate booking of the perpetrators and awarding them befitting punishment.
Meanwhile, NPP intending candidate jn Langthabal AC namely Karam Nabakishore has alleged that he and his workers were beaten up by workers of local MLA Karam Shyam.
Speaking to media persons at his Langthabal Kunja residence on Saturday, Nabakishore contended that some known workers of MLA K Shyam beat up four of his workers including his nephew Pritamjit around 11 pm on December 31 and tried to abduct Pritamjit in a vehicle.
Fortunately, his workers saved Pritamjit and was brought to his house, he added.
Stating that the workers of the MLA barged into his residence, Nabakishore narrated that they used strong words to him asking why he is contesting the election without their approval and warned that he cannot do whatever he likes in the locality.
The workers pushed him from the gate to the courtyard, he alleged, while recalling that' some of them escaped from the spot when his supporters and a team of Singjamei police station arrived.
However, the police did not arrest the two workers who were apprehended.
Such insincere action of the police is unfortunate, he lamented.
While appealing for ensuring free and fair election, Nabakishore demanded stringent punishment of all those involved as per law of the land.
A complaint was also submitted to Singjamei Police Station with the names of those involved in the incident, he said, while urging the police department not to work under pressure of any political party.
