UCM visits Heikakpokpi village

United Committee Manipur (UCM) members led by its president Joychandra Konthoujam on Saturday visited Heikakpokpi village and joined in the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
During the visit, UCM presented gifts to senior citizens of the village while the villagers reciprocated the gesture by presenting gifts to the UCM team.
According to a release by UCM, the programme was attended by its president Joychandra Konthoujam as chief guest, Heikakpokpi village Th Lamtachao as president and UCM general secretary Ng Deba as guest of honour.
Speaking at the programme, Joychandra stressed that any misunderstanding among the people of the state can be resolved through parleys along with joining in each other's festivals.
He noted that the state government has recognised Tarao community as the smallest community of the state, with a total population of 1066 as per 2011 census.
Though, less in number they are still following their age-old religion, tradition and culture.
The UCM president stressed that supporting small communities, helping them in their needs and allowing them to live life with freedom is the aim of the organisation.
Government has overlooked the smaller communities; and hence the organisation will focus on it.
Major communities should not engulf smaller communities.
Even during the time of king's rule, the minority communities enjoyed their freedom and received all the benefits, he added.
