Workshop on safe school environment held

A state level workshop on the theme "Safe and Secure School Environment with Focus on Implementation of Supreme Court Guidelines for Safe and Secure Transport Facilities for Children" was conducted under the joint aegis of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday.
In his address at the workshop, Social Welfare director Ng Uttam pointed out the need to take the opinion of children while initiating programmes for the school going children.
While lamenting that school children are being packed like sardines in school vans in addition to rash driving by the drivers, Uttam said time has come for every sane citizens to intervene and seek inputs from the children whether they actually are satisfied with the services provided for them and accordingly take up necessary measures, before incidents occur.
Meanwhile, MCPCR chairperson Phurailatpam Manibabu Sharma stressed the need for establishing cordial relationship between the school authorities and those engaged for school van services.
During the technical session, advocate Thiyam Rajkishore spoke on the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court with regard to transportation of school students as one of the resource persons.
