Imphal, December 28 2022:
Calling the clarification given by Sapamcha Jadumani in local dailies over his remarks on drivers as baseless and false, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' & Motor Workers' Union has asserted that they will not accept his clarification.
In a release, Union's general secretary Maimom Anil Meitei stated that Sapamcha Jadumani's claim that he rescued some drivers in 2003-04 from an underground group has no truth.
Jadumani was only present at Kangpokpi police station on the route when the said drivers were escorted by the members of the Union from Dimapur.
He played no role in their rescue.
His work as presidents of various organisation of the state is well known to the Union, it claimed.
M Anil also stressed that drivers should not be blamed for influx of non-locals in the state.
Does Jadumani have any proof of his claims? Even if there are few drivers who indulge in illegal activities such as drug trafficking, they are ousted from Union.
Do not look down on drivers who sacrifice so much in the service of the people, Anil remarked.
The Union also pointed out that as the state is landlocked, the drivers risk their lives to transport essential commodities for the people of the state.
Jadumani must remind himself of the courage of the drivers who during the time of NH blockades and bandhs, brought in essential items into the state amidst stone pelting, firing of slingshots and even bullets, it maintained.
The release further conveyed that the Union will never remain silent over any attempt to misrepresent the whole driver community to the public by citing unlawful activities of a few drivers.
