Imphal, December 28 2022:
Former Minister Oinam Lukhoi allegedly assaulted an officer of the Education (S) Department at Wangoi today.
The victim has been identified as Yumnam Nikendra, 44, an Assistant Inspector of Schools at the Wangoi Zonal Education Office.
He hails from Chirai Mayai Leikai, Mayang Imphal.
As per sources, he is receiving treatment at a clinic at Mayang Imphal and a written complaint has been filed against the former Minister at Wangoi police station.
Nikendra was working at his office when the former Minister from Wangoi Assembly Constituency, came with escort and called him out of the office and allegedly started beating him.
At the office complex of the ZEO Wangoi today, Yumnam Leimahal, elder sister of Nikendra, told media persons that former Minister O Lukhoi even used a "stick to beat" his younger brother (Nikendra) .
She said, O Lukhoi, who came with escorts, called out Nikendra from his office through a person.
Nikendra was then brought inside a room and there, he was allegedly beaten by the former Minister.
O Lukhoi even used a stick to beat Nikendra, she claimed.
"We didn't have any issue with the former Minister and we also do not share the same Assembly Constituency.
He is from Wangoi Assembly Constituency and we belong to Mayang Imphal Constituency," Y Leimahal said, asking for the authorities concerned to investigate the incident and punish O Lukhoi.
She also decried the ZEO Wangoi staff for remaining silent on the issue.
Meanwhile, Joint Youth Development Committee, Mayang Imphal, president, Chesabam Achouba has strongly condemned the incident and said the former Minister has no rights to take such action and he had taken the law in his hands when he assaulted Nikendra.
"Even if Nikendra is at fault, supposedly, there is an Education (S) Director, Commissioner and other senior officers and authorities to take appropriate action against him.
As if this is a lawless land, former Minister Oinam Lukhoi had taken the law in his hands when he beat the officer," Ch Achouba said.
To prevent such incidents from happening in the future, police and authorities concerned should investigate this incident properly and deliver justice, he said.
