Leingangching villagers rue sluggish road project

Leingangching villagers have demanded completion of blacktopping of the Pallel-Chandel road till Leingangching via Charangching, which is being taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) .
A team comprising Leingangching village chief Monok, village authority chief Thampor Leikon, secretary Sungnem Darmi, assistant chief Motit, village authority members Thamtupur and Rengting and youth secretary Darngam inspected the condition of the road on Wednesday.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the inspection visit, Sungnem Darmi informed that the Pallel-Chandel road extending till Leingangching is a 16 km long road stretching from Kakching Khunou Umathel to Chandel district via Leingangching and Charangching.
Of the total length of the road, an 8 km-long stretch in Leingangching sector being constructed under PMGSY phase XL The jungle cutting work of the 8 km stretch taken up in November 2018 under package no MN-CDL 0201 (B) MN02122 phase-XI of PMGSY was targeted for completion by May 18, 2020 followed by the blacktopping work from July 16, 2019 and completed by January 15, 2021, Sungnem elaborated, adding that maintenance of the road was set from January 16, 2021 till January 15, 2026 .
Although the deadline for completion of the said works had already lapsed, the same has not been completed till date, while blacktopping of only 3km from Umathel area was started but left incomplete following which a number of complaints were made to the authority concerned but no action has been taken up till date, he said.
The secretary then appealed to the chief minister and ministers concerned to do the needful at the earliest considering the hardships faced by the people of Leingangching.
