U-17 world cupper Babina Usham feted

State footballer Babina Lisham, who participated in the ongoing 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, was felicitated by the local people of her home village Haokha Maning Leikai, Thoubal district on Wednesday.
Youth Development Association (YDA) Thoubal Haokha Maning Leikai hosted the felicitation function held at the club ground.
Haokha Kiyam Siphai Kiyam Sports Association (HKK-SA) president and Babina's mentor Dr Th Komol, local elder S Manao and YDA president L Joykumar attended the event as members of the dais.
Along with Babina, her father L Kunjo and mother Roma were also honoured on the occasion.
Appreciating the warm welcome accorded to her, Babina said that despite suffering defeat in the World Cup, the participation will encourage her to work hard and strive further in her career as a sportsperson.
She also expressed gratitude to her mentors Deben and Surbala for her achievement.
Mention may be made here that Indian women's team is participating in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup for the first time.
The 21-member Indian squad had seven players from the state including Babina.
Unfortunately, the Indian team lost all the three league round matches and exited from the tournament.
Babina played in all the three matches.
