JCILPS hails crackdown, sticks to 1951 base year stand

While welcoming the government's crackdown on violators of ILP system regulations, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has urged the government to put in place a long lasting and effective mechanism to check violators, and at the same time reiterated its demand for making 1951 the base year for identifying non-locals instead of 1961.Addressing a press meet at its Sega Road Konjeng Hajari Leikai office, here, on Wednesday, JCILPS convenor Phulindro Konsam recalled how the chief minister himself admitted in a session of the state assembly about inability to track some nori-locals, who entered the state.
As non-locals are creating imbalance in the economy, social, cultural and political situation of the state, it is commendable for the government to launch drive against ILPS guideline violators as well as illegal immigrants and taking up legal actions against them.
He then urged the government to put in place an effective permanent mechanism for checking such violators all over the state and taking up legal actions against them in swift manner.
Phulindro further said that JCILPS has been carrying out similar drives to verify non locals.
During a recent drive at Pf)A Complex, Langol, a joint team of JCILPS students' wing, women's wing and executive members carried out verification of around 50 labourers out of which eight were found without any ILP pass.
Infra Industry, the construction company which engaged the labourers assured of acquiring the necessary documents at the earliest, he said and also affirmed that JCILPS will extend full cooperation to the government in the drive against violators and illegal immigrants.
The convener then appealed to construction companies, contractors and rent owners to follow the guidelines.
On the other hand, he said, JCILPS has been demanding the government to make 1951 as the base year for identifying non-locals instead of 1961 as decided by the government.
Till today, the government has not considered the demand and JCILPS would like to bring up the demand again in the larger interest of the indigenous communities of the state so that the same is implemented at the earliest.
He also welcomed the government's decision to update NRC by forming Population Commission, and added that it will help in identifying the non-locals.
