Allow street vendors continue trading till Chakkouba: JAC

Joint Action Committee of Street Vendors' secretary Sh Rajendro has appealed to authority concerned to allow street vendors to continue vending activities on the roadsides of Khwairamband Keithel for sometimes in view of the upcoming Ningol Chakkouba festival.
Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Rajendro said that government authorities, particularly Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and MAHUD department should identify genuine street vendors ofKhwairamband Keithel and provide them vending space.
Until such an arrangement is made, theproblem of street vendor in Khwairamband Keithel will persist, he said.
According to Sh Rajendro, genuine street vendors were provided vending space at temporary market of Khwairamband Keithel as pet an order of the MA HUD commissioner issued on October 15 but they could not find their slot the next morning as unknown street vendors were found occupying their space.
If such activity continues then the problem of street vendor and their vending space in Khwairamband Keithel will continue unabated, Rajendro said and reiterated the appeal to allow street vendors continue trading activities on roadsides of Khwairamband Keithel till Ningol Chakkouba festival.
Rajendro further said that majority of the street vendors plying their wares at temporary market are not real street vendors and this problem remains unresolved as no identification was made when loan for street vendors was distributed sometimes back.
Had the loan been distributed after proper identification process, the present problem could have be avoided, he said and urged the government to take up 'steps to avoid such problems.
