Honorarium of VDF to be increased by ₹500 annually

The honorarium received by Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel per month will now be increased by Rs 500 on yearly basis from January next year.
According to an office memorandum issued by principal secretary (Home) Rajesh Aggarwal on Tuesday, after thorough discussion on the various issues faced by VDF, who are being engaged by the state government, several steps have been taken up.
One of these is increasing the honorarium of VDF by Rs 500 on yearly basis.
VDF personnel can take compensatory leave for 15 days in a year.
There will be 10 percent vacancy for eligible VDF personnel in direct recruitment to the post of police constable and riflemen.
In addition, VDF personnel have to undergo physical and medical tests conducted by the police department with the help of the health department for performance assessment on yearly basis.
Taking the year of joining, VDF will be categorised under three ranks.
Personnel who have been engaged for 8 years will be given the designation of Corporal, while those engaged for 15 years will be designated as Sergeant.
If a VDF member is charged to the point of disengagement, then the personnel will be issued a show-cause notice for explanation.
The decision for disengagement will be taken at the level of Superintendent of Police.
For any further grievances, the personnel can appeal to the DIG within 30 days.
VDF personnel who have performed their duties/responsibilities excellently will be honoured at the national and state level functions and also on the occasion of Police Raising Day, after detailed scrutiny by a .2-tier committee structure at the state and district level.
Furthermore, the district SPs will take up steps to provide VDF personnel with benefits of health care programmes such as Ayush-man Bharat, CMHT and also social security schemes like National Pension Scheme, Atal Pension Yojana, PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, in consultation with the finance department, the office memorandum maintained.
