Imphal, October 19 2022:
While maintaining that Meetei community has been putting enormous efforts to keep intact unity, integrity and harmonious survival of all the indigenous communities of Manipur, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has said that unity and integrity of Manipur will collapse if the Meetei community gets extinct.
Sanajaoba stated this while unveiling newly constructed different Shanglen including Sanagi Ningshing Shangai of Lainingthou Sanamahi at Haying Khongban Uphong Yumpham, on Wednesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the unveiling ceremony attended by Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board vice president and PDA chairman L Rameshwar as president and former minister RV Mingthing as guest of honour, Leishemba Sanajaoba said the Meetei community has long been living with dark thoughts.
The community was unable to take the right path and speak out despite knowing the truth until recently but has been awakened of late.
However, there is nothing to be proud of being a majority community as Meetei's fate remains uncertain if the present trend continues for the next 10-15 years, he said and stressed the need for bringing unity to save the community and have mutual discussion on all issues confronting the community.
Apart from the issue of drug abuse, Meetei community is encountering different issues.
While many women of the community have lost their husbands, scores of other women of the community are suffering after their husbands remain addicted to drugs and intoxicants.
This has put the community in a situation of not being able to increase its population.
Many men and women of the community have followed other faiths while leaving the rich tradition left by their forefathers, Leishemba Sanajaoba pointed out, and stressed the need for Meetei community to be strengthened.
He said that Manipur's unity and integrity could be protected when Meetei community is strengthened and made powerful.
While stating that the condition of Lainingthou Sanamahi temple has improved considerably since the past few years, the titular king thanked Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board, chief minister N Biren Singh, ministers and MLAs for their roles in improving the temple complex.
