MSU & MYO plant trees along NH

Senapati, May 27 2022:
Under its "Green Highway and Road Safety Mission," Mao Students' Union (MSU) and Mao Youth Organization (MYO) conducted a mass tree plantation from Makhan Khuman to Mao Gate on Friday.
Addressing media persons at the tree plantation site, Tadubi MLA N Kayisii stated that the tree plantation was taken up together with the MSU and MYO to help maintain ecological balance while Mao MLA and former PHE minister L Dikho stated that the day was organised with mass Cherry plantation along the NH-2/AH-1 .
L Dikho also lauded MSU and MYO for their active participation in protecting the environment.
Reportedly, the state chief minister was also briefed on the plantation drive for a stretch of about 30 km from Makhan Khuman to Mao Gate, especially for road side protection with cherry saplings.
The state government has also recognised Mao area as cherry growing zone.
Marikho O'Leriina, president MSU, said that MSU and MYO in partnership with the local MLAs in the presence of A Kapani, caretaker chairman, ADC Senapati, district administration, Mao frontal organisations including Mao Council, Mao Naga Women Welfare Association carried out the plantation drive.
Calling it as historic occasion, the MSU president informed that about 900 volunteers from 35 Mao villages took part in the drive along the NH.
The main objective of the plantation was to protect the environment and maintain a clean and green highway.
The student leader also said that the plantation would act as crash barriers in future, while hoping that such initiative would take the Mao community to another level and would set an example for the rest of the people of for the state and the country as a whole.
The plantation commenced from 8 am and continued till 4 pm.
The Senapati District Drivers' Welfare Union was lauded by everyone for donating packaged drinking water to all the volunteers during the plantation.
