Sensitisation programme on child laws conducted

Imphal, May 27 2022:
A sensitisation cum interaction programme for all the stakeholders under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 (JJ Act, 2015) was conducted jointly by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Imphal West arid DLSA, Tamenglong under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) at conference hall, ADR Building, Lamphel Court Complex, Lamphel on Friday.
District and Sessions Judge, Imphal West and DLSA Imphal West, Tamenglong and Chandel chairman A Guneshwar Sharma presided over the programme which was also attended by DLSA Tamenglong secretary Dr Laishram Rina Devi and DLSA Imphal West Heeralata Moirangthem.
The event was participated by 80 stakeholders under the JJ Act, 2015 including MASLSA additional member secretary Sorokhaibam Sadananda; members of Child Welfare Committees, Juvenile Justice Board; district child protection officers; legal cum probation officers; counsellors; superintendents of child care institutions, namely, children home, open shelter, observation home, special home, place of safety, specialised adoption agency, fit facilities under the jurisdiction of Imphal West, Tamenglong and Noney.
During the programme, Judge A Guneshwar Sharma spoke on 'Overview of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015', while Sorokhaibam Sadananda, talked on the topic 'Bail and Offences by and Against Children', Heeralata Moirangthem on 'General Principles to be followed in Administration of the JJ Act, 2015' and Dr Laishram Rina Devi on Steps to be taken up by all the Stakeholders for Speedy Disposal of Cases under the JJ Act, 2015'.Meanwhile, DLSA Chandel under the aegis of MASLSA in collaboration with Sirti Thiimuiitam Sourkhe (STS)/Monsang Naga Students' Union organised a one-day Legal Awareness Programme on the topic 'Online Child Sexual Abuse - A Rising Problem in Today's Digital Age' as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign at St Peter's Higher Secondary Syhool, Monsang Pantha, Chandel district on Friday.
According to a release by DLSA Chandel secretary Lamkholal Kipgen, the programme was attended by STS president Ng Lawrence, education secretary Wanglar Phillip with advocate Keishang Kopham present as resource person.
Speaking on the topic, Keishang pointed out that the main problem is the advancement of technologies and exposure of social media to children at a very young age.
He also explained about Information Technology Act, 2000 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 which protects children from online offences.
The release further conveyed that students of St Peter's Higher Secondary School, STS members, DLSA Chandel staff and PLVs participated in the programme.
