Reacting sharply to the statement of Chief Minister N Biren Singh branding the IHRA Manipur Chapter president as a 'Myanmarese', Dr Mark Thangmang Haokip's father slammed the Chief Minister for his alleged "blind and irresponsible" statement. The 76-years old Limkhosei Haokip said that his father Ondou Haokip was a member of the Indian National Army (INA), and as such belonged to an 'Indian freedom fighter's family' .
Terming the Chief Minister's statement as 'blind and irresponsible', Dr Mark Thangmang Haokip's father asked N Biren Singh if he can provide any proof for his wild allegation.
Saying that they have been living in Manipur for centuries since the time of Landaithangba, he claimed that he was born at Haikot after his parents shifted from Mombi to Nungtak village and Nungtak to Haikot village.
Limkhosei continued that his father fought the British as an Indian National Army personnel and contributed tremendously during the Khongjom War.
He alleged that the statement of N Biren Singh is an insult to the entire Nation including the Chief Minister himself.
The IHRA Manipur Chapter president's father also said that he and his family members are Manipuris by birth and "we have contributed a lot to the Nation and the State" .
The aged father of Dr Mark Thangmang Haokip also asked the Chief Minister to refrain from telling lies and govern the people fairly.
Paokhothang Haokip, elder brother of Dr Mark Thangmang Haokip, said that he was shocked when he saw the video clip of the Chief Minister N Biren Singh claiming his brother to be a Myanmar National.
"Chief Minister N Biren Singh is a confused man who blindly made a judgment through a Facebook profile of Mark who is just an in-charge of Myanmar as a human rights activist' ', he added.
He also said that they have settled in various places such as Tollen, Phoilen near Salungpha Heirok, etc before coming to Churachandpur.
Paokhothang said that there are so many individuals and organizations from the valley who posted hate comments on social media and asked why his brother was singled out.
He then urged the State Government to release his brother without any condition at the earliest.
