Imphal, May 27 2022:
As many as 10 civil society organisations including the Kabui Mothers' Association (KAMA) and the Zeliangrong Union (ZU) have warned that they would launch different modes of agitation if Mark Thangmang Haokip who has been arrested for posting defamatory and derogatory statements in social media (Facebook and Twitter) against freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu is let off easily without awarding befitting punishment as per the law.
Notably, Mark Thangmang Haokip of Molnom village, Churachandpur was brought to Imphal today after he was arrested from Delhi.
Speaking to media persons at the Kakhulong office of ZU today, KAMA general secretary Ranjita Golmei recalled that Mark Thangmang Haokip had the audacity to claim that Rani Gaidinliu was not a freedom fighter but a criminal who was imprisoned for her crimes in his social media posts uploaded on November 23, 2021 .
Mark Thangmang Haokip's social media posts not only make a mockery of the freedom fighters but also smacked of sheer contempt for all the people of the land, Ranjita Golmei said.
Taking strong exception to his derisive social media posts, 10 CSOs including KAMA and ZU lodged a complaint against Mark Thangmang Haokip at Imphal police station on November 28, 2021 .
However, Mark Thangmang Haokip remained elusive for a long time before he was apprehended by a team of Manipur Police from Delhi on May 24, she said.
Apart from Rani Gaidinliu, many other freedom fighters and heroes of the land including Bir Tikendrajit and Hijam Irabot may become subjects of Mark Thangmang Haokip's contempt and derision next time if he is let off easily this time, said the KAMA general secretary.
She then urged the Chief Minister and the State Government to ensure that Mark Thangmang Haokip is awarded exemplary punishment.
She said that the 10 CSOs would be compelled to launch different modes of agitation if the offender is let off easily.
Representatives of ZU (AMN), KIL, IPSA, ACOAM-Lup, IPAK, Kanglamei and CLK were also present at the press meet.
