Imphal, May 27 2022:
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has strongly condemned the publication of a clarification issued by KIM with regard to Dr Mark Thangkhomang Haokip on July 23, 2021, as a "newly issued statement" on May 22 by some media houses and asked the latter to clarify the matter at the earliest possible.
In a release issued on Friday, vice president Sominthang Doungel said KIM reckons the re-publication as an attempt to create apprehensions among the Kukis, especially with regard to Kuki Inpi Manipur.
The role of any media should be to harbour peace and harmony and not to create or instigate hatred and prejudice, it said.
The arrest of Mark Haokip has fuelled deep resentment of many against the biased, corrupt and unjust practices of the government against the Kukis, and the tribals at large.
The publication, subsequently, is iniquitous and shocking, especially at a time of public disquiet due to the unlawful arrest of Mark Haokip, it emphasised.
KIM also asserted that the misguided re-publication of its year-old statement has raised grave concerns and made the media houses questionable.
In fact, it is regrettable that responsible media houses of the state have discredited the accountability of the media houses.
For whatever reasons the re-publication was done, it is essentially required of the media houses to verify their sources and more especially to remain unbiased and unprejudiced, it said.
KIM further mentioned that it will always stand for peace and harmony among communities and promote understanding and acceptance of different cultures and traditions.
Nevertheless, as an apex body of the Kukis in Manipur, it will invariably commit to the cause of the Kukis and work to protect the rights and privileges of the Kukis.
