Imphal, May 27 2022:
People's Movement for Resurgent Manipur (PMRM) has urged the people of Manipur to be wary of persons like 'Myanmar National' Mark Haokip who allegedly poses a serious threat to the unity and integrity of the State which is home to different ethnic groups and sked the State Government to implement NRC with 1951 as a base year to identify the foreign Nationals in Manipur.
A press release issued by PMRM said that the Government must take strong action against those who attempt to distort the history of Manipur where people of different groups including Meetei, Naga and Kuki co-exist
since ancient times 'harmoniously' .
Claiming that Mark Haokip and a section of people who have been trying to create animosity among the people, apart from obstructing Government projects, should not be allowed to stay in Manipur, PMRM said that initiative being taken up by the State Government over the issue is right and people should support the move.
It continued that PMRM will lend all possible assistance to keep the unity and integrity of Manipur intact.
It urged the State Government to reward befitting punishment to Mark Haokip for circulating unfounded allegations which can mislead the people.
As per PMRM, Mark Haokip also tried to misrepresent the War on Drugs campaign and afforestation drive of the State as an endeavour to occupy certain land.
Claiming that Mark Haokip is responsible for bringing many Myanmar Nationals to Manipur discreetly, PMRM opined that he (Mark Haokip) might also have a hand in establishing unregistered villages (in hundreds) in hill districts, specially Kangpokpi and Churachandpur.
"It is also the Myanmar Nationals who claim ownership of the sacred sites at Thangjing Hill Range and Mount Koubru, thereby causing misunderstanding among the indigenous people," PMRM alleged.
Asking the State Government to find out under whose influence Mark Haokip openly stated that the size of Manipur was only 700 sq km, PMRM said that the claim of Mark Haokip validate that it was him and his associates who have been defiling various sacred sites in Manipur.
PMRM further urged the State Government to find out and reveal the identities of academicians, politicians and CSO leaders who have been scheming with Mark Haokip to distort the history of Manipur, keep a strict vigil at border areas so as to check illegal entry of foreign Nationals and deport Mark Haokip and his associate to their native country.
